I don't have one myself so I haven't tested that yet. Hardware converters should also work and shouldn't require the virtual MIDI cable. Any program that converts guitar signals to MIDI should work.

Note that MIDI Guitar 2 isn't a free program and the trial version interrupts you every minute or so. The latency is more noticable than when playing on a MIDI keyboard though (ymmv).
